An Indonesian manufacturer of pre-stressed concrete beams has installed 16 overhead cranes

Manufacturing factories can use overhead cranes to perform various tasks, thereby improving production efficiency, reducing labor intensity, and ensuring operational safety. By using and maintaining overhead cranes in a reasonable manner, manufacturing factories can benefit from various aspects, including improving production efficiency, reducing labor costs, and ensuring operational safety. These improvements contribute to enhancing the competitiveness and sustainable development capabilities of enterprises.

The manufacturer of prestressed concrete beams installed 16 overhead cranes

An Indonesian manufacturer of pre-stressed concrete beams has installed 16 overhead cranes from to optimise production at its plant in Surabaya.

The factory’s target production capacity for this year is about 3.25 million tons of concrete beams, which will be used for construction and infrastructure projects, including flood control structures, offshore piling and structures, as well as highways, railway bridges, and civil engineering. To ensure that this goal can be achieved, the newly installed crane adopts full inverter control, which can achieve speed, safety, and accuracy. The log travel speed is 100m per minute to improve efficiency.

The newly installed bridge crane has replaced the slower and less efficient mobile crane used as a temporary measure since the opening of the Surabaya factory a year ago. The sales manager of the factory stated, “Obviously, safety is of utmost importance when handling long and heavy beams (6-20m, weighing 3-15t). Not only must any collision risk be reduced, but the process must also be designed robustly to continue providing uninterrupted supply for important infrastructure projects in a reliable manner.”.

What we learned from this case

We have always known that safety issues are of paramount importance in the use of bridge cranes, and this philosophy has been fully reflected in this Indonesian project. In order to ensure the accuracy and safety of work, The cranes are a combination of single and double girder types, with capacities of 8-10t, and feature tank operation where required for housing wide, long and heavy concrete and steel loads.

Because reliability is essential, Factory and crane suppliers spent more than two months partnering with the customer, settling all the technical specifications and design criteria. This meant the factory were able to use latest proven lifting technologies complete with suitable statutory compliance, technical and design requirements based on actual usage.

All 16 cranes incorporate inverter control for smoother travelling motion, meaning better load control compared to one- or two-speed contactor control. All lift, cross travel and long travel speeds are tailored to the exact application. Safety devices also include overload protection, upper/lower limit switch, cross travel and long travel limit switch, anti-collision devices and thermal protection for the motors

During the installation process, we usually dispatch experienced technical personnel to the site at the request of the customer to supervise and guide, promptly solve potential technical problems, and ensure the smooth progress of the installation work. At the same time, we also offer a commitment to after-sales service, providing customers with long-term technical support and maintenance services.
